Today is a day for shameless self-promotion. I apologize ...

But ... I just submitted an entry for a contest: Vanilia (a Dutch clothing brand) is looking for a t-shirt design. Three winners will see their designs go into production for sale in Vanilia boutiques.

For this project, I tried a new way of working: layering floral motifs and tribal motifs on top of each other, using masks, filters, blending modes and adjustment layers in Photoshop CS5.

The final result:

And a detail:

So if you like what you see, please don't hesitate to head over to Style Today's Facebook page here. Click on the "Design your own t-shirt ..." icon at the bottom of the header image and you can scroll through all the entries and vote (or 'stem' in Dutch) for the design(s) you like. Please let one of them be mine! :)

Also, if you're interested in participating, they are accepting submissions until May 23!

What do you think of these design contests? I'm noticing that more and more big manufacturers are launching contests, either through sites like threadless.com or spoonflower.com, or through social media (like this one, which uses a Facebook app).

Have you participated in any of these contests, and if so, what have been your experiences?
