Twisting Tulips White
This supremely elegant floral wallpaper design features the flower that was imported to the Netherlands from Asia during the Golden Age, and that subsequently spawned ‘Tulip Mania’, a period in Dutch history when a single tulip bulb sold for the price of a canal house!
I envision my tulip wallpaper on a stunning accent wall, whether in your dining room, living room, bathroom, under a staircase, you name it. Use it in an unexpected space: an old factory, a loft, an elevator ... a restaurant, a club, a theater. The possibilities are endless.
I created Twisting Tulips in 2013 and it remains one of my favorite designs in the collection. This design evolved from a graphite drawing based on old fashioned botanical illustrations. I scanned the drawing and smoothed and softened it using Photoshop air brushes.
The twisting and bending gestures of the flowers are rhythmic and elegant. I love this print on silk curtains and large cushions. Lots of exciting combinations can be made when you juxtapose the cushions and wallpaper, or cushions and curtains, by choosing the black and white colorways and the various formats and placements to contrast and compliment each other.
This print is graphic and understated, and provides a gorgeous backdrop for a vase of fresh, colorful flowers.
