Okay so my new inspiration for this blog is to document my design process, starting with these mood boards. Do you work with mood boards? If so, what do they look like? I'd love to share!

Having just returned for our summer vacation in New England, where we spent lots of time on ocean beaches, its no wonder that 'Ocean Sparkle*' is the inspiration that came to me this time around.

It's a mixture of loose and chaotic forms - sky, wind and wave - and highly ordered and finely detailed forms - like the textures and markings on seashells.

The sparkle part comes from my 4-year-old daughter Ruby's sudden fascination with some pieces of jewelry that I once made with glass seed beads and Swarovski crystals, which we recently unearthed and have used as drawing inspiration.

The next step in this process will be to introduce you to the customer I'll be designing the 'Ocean Sparkle*' collection for, so check back for more about her, followed by sketches and eventually a full collection of designs.
