Like mother, like daughter

SHARE:

After Nikki Li Kinowski (@jeadoreblogger) made a dress for herself from our Dark Floral Fabric, her daughter Imogen asked Mom to make one in her size. Imogen loved receiving a gift from Nikki that was her mother's own concept and creation, and of course she loved being able to dress up just like Mom.

Nikki Li Kinowski lives in Sunny Southern California with her husband Adam, Daughter Imogen and their two fur babies, Faith and Goldie (though a piece of their hearts is still in Wisconsin). She is a creator of the Scalloped Window where she creates and sells faux floral goodies, enjoys extraordinary ordinary days and works daily as a senior designer for the plant team on ProFlowers.com.

- Where did you get the idea for the dress?

“I have been hoarding Ellie's fabric in hopes to one day be able to create something to wear with it. The company I work for, ProFlowers, supports an event at the San Diego Museum of art called Art Alive. On opening night, there was an incredible party! Cocktails (though I rarely drink), amazing food from all over the city, dancing, dessert, and amazing floral pieces. Does it get any better?? It's really the only event these days that I have to get super dolled up. I wasn't having any luck finding something to wear, and then I remembered I had the fabric. I am a NOVICE seamstress at best.... So while concepting the dress, I knew it had to be SUPER simple - and I wanted to show as much of the design/florals as possible.”

- What was your intention by making those dresses?

“Basically just to drape myself in the fabric!”

- What does your daughter think of the dress?

“When I showed my daughter the dress, she asked if I could make her one of her own dresses....and since I had a small chunk left, I made a super quick caftan style dress. She just LOVED that I, her mama, made it JUST FOR HER. I've been putting flower crowns on her little head since the day she was born. She stops to smell every single rose, so it is definitely fair to say that the dress was "just (her) style.”

- Have you two worn the dresses on the same day? How does that feel?

“I love matching my little lady. We haven't worn our matching dresses together yet. However, I also made a simple kimono that I've worn with her while she wore the dress. I love that she still wants to dress like mama. I have a suspicion that won't last for very long.”

- What kind of feeling does the Artwork give you?

“I'd say my style is subtle feminine. I love wearing this print, because it makes me feel elegant with a bit of edge. I love that it's classic, but not old fashion.”

- Have you gotten any feedback on the dresses? Comments/compliments, etc?

“I would say that everyone loves the dress...and I did get a gazillion compliments the night of the event, however, I think they just really love the design of the fabric.”

Stay wonder-ful,
