Custom Printed Artwork on a Wall-to-Wall Carpet
The most exciting collaborations happen when a visionary designer reaches out with new possibilities for my artwork — and together we push a project to a place that is truly unforgettable.
This custom wall-to-wall carpet was the inspiration of London-based designer Sally McCoy (@edwardsmccoy_creative). Sally’s and my paths first crossed when she sourced my ‘Dark Floral’ Wallpaper for the Ladies Room at the luxury Italian restaurant Bardo St. James, near Trafalgar Square.
Last Fall, she called me with a new idea: transform my ‘A Golden Age’ floral into a fully immersive, room-defining floor surface for her client’s basement-level cinema/lounge.
We enlarged the design to its largest scale ever, and adjusted color and contrast to suit the existing interior, with its coral-colored, wood-paneled walls. We had it produced as a beautiful, bespoke, wall-to-wall carpet. The art now lives underfoot, shaping the entire atmosphere of the room.
There are finishing touches still to come, but seeing ‘A Golden Age’ at this scale, and on this lush surface, truly takes my breath away! This is what happens when art and interiors are conceived as one experience.
Sally and I are so pleased with how this collaboration turned out. We’re sure this is the first of many bespoke carpets we’ll create for any and every project type: residential, hotel, restaurant, and hospitality. The fun is in tailoring the artwork to the architecture, mood, and narrative from the very beginning of the design process.
If you’re dreaming about something like this for your floors: bold, immersive and completely one-of-a-kind, let’s talk!
